Overview

This 2-hour workshop addresses principles for doing qualitative research, interpretivism as a qualitative research paradigm and principles of hermeneutics, with supporting case studies of how to deal with qualitative data in different ways. This workshop is tailored for emerging scientists (supervisors and postgraduate students) interested in doing or supervising qualitative research.

Outcomes

Upon completion of this workshop participants should be able to:

  • Understand and explain the basic principles of doing qualitative research
  • Explain principles of Hermeneutics and interpretivist research
  • Understand the difficulties of Hermeneutics
  • Conduct qualitative interviews
  • Interpret analysed data
  • Prepare to theorise and particularise using qualitative data
