Kirstin is a part-time Research Advisor of Worldwide Information Services (WWIS), where he plays a leading role in developing research capacity services for the WWIS Academy. Additionally, he is a Visiting Researcher for STADIO Higher Education, where he develops and provides research support, mentoring, and supervision related to their Master’s and Doctoral programs.
In prior roles, he served as a Full Professor at the University of South Africa (UNISA) from 2017 to 2022 and as an Associate Professor at Rhodes University from 2012 to 2016, where he focussed predominantly on postgraduate student development and supervision capacity building. Kirstin’s research focuses mainly on ICT for Development, Critical Ethnography, Higher Education, and mitigating questionable scholarly practices and he has done editorial work for a number of journals and conferences. Kirstin has a PhD in Informatics from the University of Pretoria.
